Nursing has been a strong  and solid career in Nigeria many years and also one of the fastest growing field, as a prospective Nursing student  you may thought of nursing as a general job title in a high-paying field but nurses can choose from a range of specialties, from midwifery to teaching.

You might have been hearing RNs and also BSc Nursing and wondering what could be the differences and probably similarities  between the two, this post is to give you the full details about the so called RNs and BSc in Nursing.  
What is RNs?
RNs a 3-year nursing program preparing student to be a Registered Nurse after meting up the outlined by The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria also completed their licensing requirements set in place by the Council.

What is BSC Nursing Degree?
BSc Nursing which fully means Bachelor Degree in Nursing, it five-year program for students in Nigeria but four-year in some other foreign countries to become a certified, qualified and registered nurse, also those who already have registered nurse certificate will or can  enroll in BSN programs to further their education in the nursing.

What is the Comparism: RN and Bsc?
The most commonly  comparisons which is always confusing  is that  the Registered Nurse (RN) and the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) are  prepared nurse. In Nigeria Both RNs and BSNs alike have to study, pass the The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) exam, and get themselves licensed.

RNs and Bsc How are they different?
  1. Registered Nurse (RN) is a job title, while a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is a degree option commonly taken to become a Registered Nurse 
  2. BSN is a degree and an RN is a license. Getting a degree doesn’t mean you have a license, you have to seat for The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) exam to get yourselves licensed.
  3. As you know that  BSN degree allows individuals to have more training within the specialty field they are looking to work in, as well as gives employers the peace of mind that their employee fully understands compared to that of RNs.
  4. A BSN degree is favored over just an RNs for many entry-level nursing jobs
  5. With BSc Nursing your can apply for Master Degree in Nursing which is not possible with just RNs. 
  6. As a BSc your will possess three things, university degree certificate, license and a Registered Nurse and Midwifery but  RNs only get certified and Licensed  as Register Nurse

Duties for registered nurses with RNs ranges from maintaining health records, assisting patients with their daily care, monitor patient health statuses and giving basic nursing card to treat injuries and illnesses but Once you’ve earned a BSc Nursing ,  you have more responsibilities. This, of course, also means that yo have more options for jobs, from being an educator to specializing in a certain disease or working with a specific age or cultural demographic.

So, BSc Nursing may be preferred due to the priority over RNs, but RNs can be a starting point for student aiming to be a Nurse, also to bypass the admission stress as we know that is is not easy to get admission to study Nursing in Nigerian Public Universities , but to be candid the future of nursing may soon require BSN degrees over RNs degrees for practicing nurses as it will open your career up to fascinating specialties in pediatrics, gynecology, surgery, psychology, diabetes, psychiatry and more.

There is no doubt that  salary difference between RN vs BSN degrees is that those who hold a BSN degree are likely to make more than RN's who only have their RNs which means your level of education determine the amount of money you’ll be able to earn as a Nurse
